I’m only four months into motherhood, but I’ve already learned that it’s not always a glamorous endeavor. Between diaper mishaps, feeding fumbles, and drool it can sometimes feel like a dirty job. After my little one developed a few extra chins I found a whole new source of funk. Keeping his cute little rolls clean and dry became a serious challenge, and baby powder a large part of the solution.
Conventional baby powders often contain talc, an ingredient that can cause some pretty alarming health problems. While you still wouldn’t want to breathe in a lungful, you and baby are sure to enjoy this all-natural and talc-free alternative. Our Aloe & Chamomile Baby Powder recipe starts off with a base of gentle, absorbent Kaolin Clay. Arrowroot Powder and Cornstarch add a silky texture while Aloe soothes and conditions delicate skin.
If baby’s skin is prone to yeast infections, or if you suspect that a yeast issue is brewing, it’s a good idea to omit the Cornstarch from this recipe. In that case, simply substitute the Cornstarch with an additional portion of Arrowroot Powder.
While this recipe was formulated with babies in mind, it isn’t exclusively for itty bitties. This formula makes an excellent body powder for adults too. Try adding a few drops of Essential Oil to the powder if you are using it for adults. Rose, Lavender, or Ylang Ylang would be lovely.
