Red, itchy, dry skin can drive anyone crazy. When you are already uncomfortable from carrying a little one, these kinds of challenges can be downright maddening. Itchy skin is a very common symptom during pregnancy, and it can be a result of a number of different things. If you were already prone to eczema or rosacea before pregnancy, you may find that it has increased. Occasionally, skin conditions like PUPPP and Prurigo can also arise.
Most mamas simply find that their skin becomes extra sensitive during pregnancy. If you are experiencing red or itchy skin, the first thing to do is eliminate any fragrances or dyes from your skin care, hair care, and laundry routines. Even if these products don't normally bother you, they may cause a sensitivity while you are pregnant.
It's also important to keep your skin clean and well moisturized at all times. Cleanse your skin gently with mild cleansers, and condition it with nutritive butters and oils. Consider swapping your usual body wash for all-natural, unscented bar soap. These kinds of soaps are readily available from soap artisans. You may even be able to find some locally made bars at your grocery store or farm market.
This body oil contains a blend of Carrier Oils that are not only super moisturizing, but anti-inflammatory as well. These antioxidant-rich Carrier Oils can also help prevent scarring. Try massaging this Body Oil onto your skin after showers, before bed, or anytime you are feeling a little rough or dry. It also makes an excellent massage oil!
